I’m based in the Hebden Bridge in West Yorkshire, a dramatic former mill town nestled at the congruence of two valleys – I moved here in 2009 after a visit one weekend.
The town is renowned for its community of artists, creatives and makers and boasts an independent traditional cinema (which I used to manage), famous gig venue The Trades Club, a Little Theatre, and is the home to festivals and events such as those run by Hebden Bridge Arts, Hebden Bridge Film Festival, Happy Valley Pride and Handmade Productions, who are responsible for the fabulous Handmade Parade. Nearby is the Ted Hughes Arvon Centre, a writing retreat at Lumb Bank, and IOU Theatre, based at Hebden Bridge Hostel.
